#ThankfulThursday However, I am thankful for my husband for all that he does! I am thankful for my work from home (work from anywhere ) business that currently gives me extra income, that will continue to grow and thrive! ...what may seem easy to do, is also easy not to do

Is it possible. Yes! How do I know? Because may of my inspirations have done what I strive to do ~ Kellie who made the decision so she would have more time with her son who at the time was 8 years old. Her son has been the priority for the past 20 years! Shannon who is able to care for her aging grandparents around her business, and runs100 miles a month! Kristi who is a full time mommy and work the business of her dreams, and makes time to take care of her health - mind, body and spirit! And they all have fun!There are sooooo many other inspirations out there that inspire me every day, there is not enough character space in one post to share (feel free to share your story in the comments!). So do I believe its possible to achieve my dreams? Heck yes!
It'll take work, that's for sure. And I am not perfect (what fun would that be lol). I may trip and fall back a few steps, but as long as I get back up, learn the lesson, and intentionally move forward, I'll be closer to my goals. Each day, I strive to do the best I know how, and continue to learn to do better everyday.

I can still remember it like it was yesterday. The name calling – fastso, Lani Moo (for those who don’t know, Lani is my middle name and also the name of a mascot that is a cow for a local company), the “looks” like I was a monster, the taunting mimic of an elephant stomping. I was in the first grade, and was the biggest girl in the class. Fortunately, it was not all the kids that were mean – just a few, but they still had a BIG impact. Did it hurt, sure did. Did I care, of course. Did I say anything, unfortunately not. I was a kid , and for the first time experiencing such…hurtful words and action. What is a kid to do?Family wasn’t any better. Those I met for the first time – the first thing they would say is nlukmeg”, which is the Ilocano word for fat. There were some who didn’t want other kids to know I was their family. I didn’t mind just being around the house because then I wasn’t meeting anyone new who would probably just tell me what I’ve already been told a million times over.In the third grade I remember a teacher who tried to help. She took me and some other girls who were “fat” and created some sort of group. The reward – you’ll get a snack. Back then, we were excited…but looking back, “Really?” You want me to lose weight and you’re going to reward me with chips and ice-cream? At the same time, we had no guideline as to HOW we were suppose to lose the weight. Don’t get me wrong. I walked EVERY DAY (between home and school)! I remember weighing in at the health office. Do I remember if I ever lost weight – probably not.
I do remember that I was always picked last to be on a team. The mean kids, were nice, when they wanted something from me. One kids asked if my legs were sore from all the weight I was holding up. Gosh, I haven’t thought about this for a long time.
Over the years doctors told me and my parents – “she needs to lose weight”. She’s “obese.” But they never told me, or my mom, what we could do to help me turn my health path around.
Growing up in Hawaii, and in a Filipino family – you can count that we always had rice, meat, and pinakbet (with msg, salt, and who knows what else). As a Filipino – we are at higher risk for many diseases. Whatever it was, my family had it.
By the time I was 18 years old, I had ballooned up to 280+ pounds, and in a size 24 (elastic mind you), shopping in Men’s department for XXXL shirts, and Plus clothing stores for pants. Fashion for overweight girls and teenagers never existed like they do today. Miraculously, while in college, I lost weight! YAY! What did I do? All the walking up and down the hills of campus to catch the bus? The walks to the public university to visit friends? Getting up late and missing breakfast (or lunch)? I’m not sure exactly. I do know that partially cutting back on soda (even though there was a soda fountain!), and ADDING greens to my meals helped. I had a small uplifting in my confidence and esteem.
Four years of college, and my first j.o.b. is an office job for an environmental organization working (aka sitting) at a desk. So a year later, I’m noticing – my pants are getting tight (at 180 lbs or so, squeezing into a size 15). Oh no! Weight is starting come back up. Why oh why? All the lunch dates with the ladies in the office? Or the meetings where refreshments were served? All the weekend outings with the ladies? I was adamant that the 80 lbs (about) I lost during college WAS NOT going to be added back to my weight. I remember a girlfriend of mine bringing me to a meeting a year ago. All I remember was I saw a lot of local people who lost weight – and I called her and told her I wanted what they had.
I lost 35 lbs and dropped down 4 sizes! How? I made sure my body got all the nutrients and vitamins it was lacking in my daily diet. And I could still eat my favorite foods! Today, I am the healthiest I’ve ever been, and never developed any of those health conditions that many of my family have suffered from and even died from.I have confidence in ME – not just my health, but in my potential for anything I want to do!
